At FAST Running we know Athletics. Our Coaches are all qualified with World Athletics. Our Head Coach, Steve Dodt (National Member ID 41794) is an IAAF Level 3 Sprints, Hurdles and Relays Coach and an Athletics Australia accredited Recreational Running Coach, who has facilitated National Coaching Courses for Athletics Australia across the Country.
Steve has been coaching since 1995 and in this time has mentored some of the finest and best running prospects not only in Canberra where he is based but across Australia. FAST Running squad members have participated at World Championships, World Juniors, Commonwealth Games, Oceania Games, Arafura Games, Nationals, All Schools (Secondary and Primary), State Championships and locally. A number of members have also go onto representing Australia in other sports including Cycling, Judo, Olympic Weight Lifting as well as been members of the Men’s and Women’s Brumbies, Raiders, Queensland Reds and a number of Canberra Premier League Soccer Clubs.
Steve has been actively involved in the sport for three decades and won the inaugural CBR Outstanding Service Award to Sport. Most recently Steve has been actively engaged in the University of Canberra Exercise Sciences Degree and has been mentoring the ACT’s up and coming Exercise Scientists, Exercise Physiologists, Strength and Conditioning Coaches. Steve has a passion for photography and has had his work published including his Athletics Australia images.
As a former elite athlete, Steve understands the needs of the members of his squad. Steve has won National Championships as a Hurdler and placed fourth in the Multi-Event (ALAC), International Medals at the Arafura Games (400mH and Long Jump) and held numerous State Records. He understands the pressures, commitment and sacrifices to achieve one’s own goals. Having competed since the age of nine years, Steve still runs as a master athlete with his body preferring trail running these days. At the 2017 Athletics ACT Championships, Steve won silver medals in the Open Men’s Long Jump and Triple Jump, and bronze medals in the Discus and Shot Put, competing alongside some of the best athletes in the country.
When Steve is not coaching, his full-time job is in ICT as a digital technology team leader and strategist. Steve applies his working knowledge to athletics by delivering innovative programs, that incorporate the latest technologies and approaches to aide his Athletes in understanding more about their exercise physiology and how it relates to performance improvement.
FAST Running’s Team of Coaches
FAST Running has the largest number of qualified Squad coaches in the ACT. FAST Running’s team of qualified Athletics and Running Coaches can offer accredited programs for Recreational Running, Para-Athletes, Jumping, Throwing, Sprinting, Hurdling and Relays.
The team have delivered Little Athletics Program for Schools (LAPS), Athletics Australia’s Sporting Schools as well as Junior Athlete Coaching for Clubs in the ACT. A number of the Coaches have worked with elite Coaches outside of FAST to develop their own knowledge and expertise. FAST Running’s Coaches are also Fitness Australia accredited providing individualised Strength and Conditioning sessions.
What really makes the difference between FAST’s Coaches and others is that with FAST, our Coaches qualifications in Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science. Some of our Coaches have a passion for working with children whilst others can provide qualified rehabilitation and injury prevention to athletes, reading and understanding of data analysis, performance psychology, therapeutic activities to athletes, and Exercise Physiology.
