Down the hill we go Canberra Running Coach, February 26, 2024February 26, 2024 The athletes in FAST Running enjoy sprinting up hills but they love to run down the hill even more. Overspeed training helps to recruit and activate muscle fibers more effectively, leading to improvements in speed and power output. Stromlo Forest Park is our training venue of choice when it comes to overspeed workouts. By experiencing higher speeds during overspeed training, sprinters may develop longer stride lengths and increase their stride frequency, contributing to overall improvements in sprint performance. FAST Running incorporates this kind of workout into the program of our athletes. Canberra Sprint Coach, Steve Dodt, assists athletes to overcome flaws in technique exposed by overspeed training, encouraging athletes to refine their running mechanics for optimal efficiency and speed. Athletes benefit from downhill sprinting by improving coordination, reaction time, and muscle firing patterns. Athletes may also strengthen muscles, tendons, and ligaments, potentially reducing the risk of injuries associated with sprinting. Training downhill at Stromlo at speeds beyond what athletes are accustomed to can help build mental toughness, confidence, and familiarity with high-speed running, which can be advantageous during competitions. Above anything else, the variety and fun added to the training program from overspeed training makes training sessions more enjoyable, potentially reducing boredom and enhancing motivation.
