How We See Ourselves: Pathways to Excellence, One Step at a Time

FAST Running - where do you sit

At FAST Running, excellence isn’t just about how fast you can run — it’s about how far you’re willing to go for your goals, and what you see when you look in the mirror.

That’s why, before a recent training session, we gathered the squad at the top of a staircase — not for hill reps or box jumps, but for something deeper.

Each athlete stood shoulder to shoulder. United. Equal. All at the top step. Why? Because they’d already made one powerful decision: to show up. But then came the real challenge.

They were invited to step down, one level at a time, based on a single question:
What are you here for?

  • Was it to make a final at the ACT Championships?
  • To set a new personal best?
  • To become one of the best of the best?
  • To become a legend in your own way?
  • Or to do whatever it takes to achieve your personal dream — even if that dream looks different from the person next to you?

It was a powerful moment. Not just for the athletes, but for the coaches too.

Because this wasn’t a drill. It was a visualisation of what we believe in at FAST: each athlete’s journey is unique — and our job is to honour that by coaching the whole person, not just the stopwatch.

Why It Matters

How we see ourselves — as competitors, as teammates, as people — influences how we train, how we show up, and how we respond to setbacks and success. That’s why we’ve built a coaching culture that champions the person first, and the result second.

We see this every day:

  • In the beginner who sets their first PB and starts to believe they belong.
  • In the junior who progresses from school carnivals to ACT medals to a national call-up.
  • In the seasoned sprinter coming back from injury who keeps showing up — quietly chasing the feeling of being strong again.

Each story matters. And each athlete is on their own Pathway to Excellence.

From Grassroots to Greatness

At FAST Running, we’re proud to support athletes at every level:

  • FAST Kids learning sprint drills for the first time.
  • Teens navigating school sport, Little Athletics, and state selection.
  • Adults pursuing competitive dreams or reclaiming personal strength.
  • National and international athletes chasing podiums — and personal growth.

No matter where they begin, we meet them there. We support the dream, and we coach the effort.

What’s Next?

We know that some will become national champions. Others will become leaders, mentors, or role models in their own circles. And some will simply become better versions of themselves through the journey.

And that’s what FAST Running is really about.

Running excellence isn’t just a result — it’s a mindset. A choice. A commitment.
And the first step, quite literally, is deciding what you want from it.

We’re here to walk (and sprint) alongside you — every step of the way.
