The 2025 10–12 Years Australian Track and Field Championships in Canberra delivered four days of sunshine, fierce competition, and exceptional performances from the next generation of FAST Running athletes proudly representing the Australian Capital Territory.
From the opening sprint heats to the closing Tetrathlon runs, our squad lived up to our motto of Running Excellence — performing when it counts, setting new personal bests, and inspiring everyone watching from the stands or at home.
Personal bests and standout sprints
In the sprints, Nelum Ganesalingam (10 yrs) and Bethany Wilson (10 yrs) both delivered personal bests in the 100 m, clocking 14.59 s and 14.79 s respectively. Nelum backed up superbly in the 200 m with 31.46 s, while Philippa Moyle powered through her 200 m heat in 30.54 s (a PB), showing her trademark drive and determination right to the line.
Freya Marshall (12 yrs) showed great composure in her national campaign, running 13.66 s in the 100 m and 28.86 s in the 200 m, while Isabelle Jeffs impressed with 27.68 s in her 200 m (a PB) – a performance that showcased her developing top-end speed and control under pressure.
George Loader (10 yrs) was electric on the track, sprinting 13.49 s in his 100 m and 27.69 s for 200 m, finishing among the best in Australia for his age. His consistency and poise were hallmarks of a FAST athlete performing at their best when it matters most.
Young jumpers making a mark
In the field, Milla Golack (10 yrs) landed a new personal best of 3.66 m in the Long Jump — an outstanding result that capped a strong season of improvement. Oliver Cooper matched her energy, jumping 3.67 m in the Boys 10 Long Jump to round out a successful debut nationals for our youngest group of competitors.
Tetrathlon: FAST athletes rise across four events
The combined-events athletes proved once again that FAST Running’s technical and mental preparation pays off across disciplines.
- Lucinda Christian (10 yrs) and Estrid Helgstedt (10 yrs) tackled all four Tetrathlon disciplines with confidence. Lucinda totalled 727 points with strong efforts in the 100 m (14.99 s), Long Jump (3.26 m), Shot Put (5.88 m) and 800 m (2:59.85). Estrid showed her grit with 600 points, highlighted by a 3.49 m Long Jump and consistent throws and runs.
- Anastasia Peters (11 yrs) produced a stellar combined performance, opening with a 13.56 s 100 m, soaring 4.63 min the Long Jump, and finishing her 800 m in 2:34.48 min – one of the fastest times of the competition – to score an impressive 1062 points.
- Thivain Ariyadasa (11 yrs) built on his breakthrough 100 m PB from earlier in the week, combining it with a 4.01 m Long Jump, 7.85 m Shot Put and 2:58 min 800 m to total 927 points.
- Tindra Helgstedt (12 yrs) balanced both her field and Tetrathlon duties superbly, throwing 25.11 m in the Discus and earning 863 points in the Tetrathlon with marks of 15.09 s (100 m), 3.99 m (Long Jump), 6.92 m (Shot Put) and a 2:49 min 800 m.
- Sam Ainsworth (12 yrs) continued his outstanding form from the season, scoring 952 points after another huge week highlighted by a 13.54 s 100 m PB and a determined 2:44 min 800 m.
A week of firsts, friendships, and fast finishes
For many of our athletes, this was their first taste of national-level competition – and they rose to it. Every FAST Running representative achieved either a personal best or equalled one, proving that being better than your best is the greatest achievement of all.
Over just three months since the ACT Championships, our squad of talented young athletes transformed belief into performance, showing that with teamwork, trust, and the FAST way of training, even the smallest state can produce world-class effort.
