FAST Running Channels Speed into Throwing Triumph at Capital Athletics Championships

FAST Running - Throws

FAST Running is best known for its sprinters, but our squad proved at the recent Capital Athletics Underage Championships that speed and explosive power also translate into throwing dominance. With dedicated coaching and a commitment to athletic development, FAST athletes stepped up in the Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, and Hammer, showing that strength and speed go hand in hand.

Leading the way was Maddison Pantos (Corroboree A), who showcased her dynamic power by winning gold in Shot Put (5.62m) and silver in Discus (14.15m) in the Under 9 division. Her ability to generate force through rapid movement is a testament to the FAST coaching philosophy—speed isn’t just for the track; it’s a weapon in the field as well.

In the Under 10 division, Lucinda Christian (Gungahlin Lac) secured silver in the Discus (16.01m), demonstrating how sprint training improves coordination and acceleration, key elements in launching the discus with precision.

The Under 11 age group saw Thivain Hasvi Ariyadasa (Ginninderra) claim bronze in the Shot Put (7.12m), adding to his medal tally across multiple events. His ability to apply explosive power—honed through sprinting and technical drills—allowed him to hold his own in the circle.

FAST’s presence in the throws continued in the older age groups, with Nique Du Plessis (Woden Thunder, Under 14)securing bronze in Shot Put (7.99m) and Lewin Ainsworth (Gungahlin Lac, Under 15) dominating the Hammer Throw (29.01m) to win gold. The rotational power and fast-twitch muscle activation required for hammer throwing align closely with the principles of acceleration training, reinforcing FAST’s holistic approach to athlete development.

Meanwhile, in the Under 17 category, Tearia Teaiwa Mortimer (Ginninderra) delivered a 9.17m throw in the Shot Put to earn bronze, proving that explosive leg drive—so crucial for sprinters—also plays a pivotal role in generating force in throwing events.

FAST Running’s success in the throws is no accident. Our coaching team prioritizes speed, coordination, and power across all disciplines, ensuring that our athletes are not just fast, but strong and technically proficient. Whether on the track or in the field, the FAST philosophy of speed, skill, and strength continues to deliver results.

Congratulations to all our medalists!
