From Prop to Bullet Train Canberra Sprint Coach, November 25, 2023February 7, 2024 Cody is a promising young Rugby League player. His favourite NRL player is Patrick Carrigan (Broncos, Australian Kangaroos). Cody has all the natural talents, tall, athletic and strong. Joining FAST, Cody is hoping to increase his speed and correct his running form. Two essential elements of becoming a better player like Carrigan. Cody’s work ethic is excellent, especially for someone so young. He’s already demonstrated a willingness to listen and learn from FAST’s coaches. As part of his training, Cody has been learning to master Hill Sessions at GGs, Canberra’s hardest hill session. Uphill running uses the same muscles that are reserved for sprinting. FAST’s hill sessions build muscle in your calves, quads, hamstrings, and glutes. You’ll also strengthen your hip flexors and achilles’ tendons. Hill running strengthens these areas more than running on flat surfaces including the track. Sprinters can add intensity by speeding up, but hills offer a way to increase intensity while going at the same speed. Your heart rate, respiration, and probably the rate of your perspiration, will go up as you start running uphill. As you strengthen your leg muscles through hill running, you might also reduce the risk of suffering from running-related injuries. You will have trained your muscles to perform at different levels of incline. As you’re running uphill, you’ll be required to engage your glutes and hamstring muscles. Going downhill requires the stability provided by your knee joints as they engage your lateral and medial quadriceps muscles. Hill repeats are an excellent workout for speed, strength, confidence, and mental endurance. Cody is already on the path to go from Prop to Bullet Train with help from FAST.
