All weather synthetic Canberra Running Coach, November 30, 2023December 5, 2023 When the weather calls for a training venue change, FAST knows the best possible locations in Canberra. The Nicholls Synthetic Sports Field is a shared facility of Gold Creek and Holy Spirit schools in Nicholls (Gungahlin). The 300m track features six lanes with 100m straight track for sprinting. Whilst not quite the standard of Australia’s fastest track at the AIS, Nicholls is a good alternative where our other preferred venues are unavailable, water logged or closed to the public. In 2019, the existing 300 metre running track was replaced along with a rubber underlay—or ‘shock pad’—to help lessen impact on joints and provide better support for users. The $1.6 million upgrade included two new synthetic playing surfaces and reconfigured line markings to accommodate for a greater range of sport, including running.
