ACT Athletes Conclude the Winter Series in Style
High Noon No. 5 – Woden Park | 21 September 2025
The curtain came down on the 2025 Winter Series with a strong showing from FAST Running’s young athletes — many of whom are set to represent the ACT at the upcoming School Sport Australia 12 & Under Track & Field Championships in Canberra this November.
Despite cool and windy conditions at Woden Park, the FAST group showed composure, consistency, and competitive maturity beyond their years. The final round of the High Noon Series proved an ideal test event — blending competition, confidence, and camaraderie across sprints, jumps, and throws.
Tom Madigan – Finding Top Gear
Tom produced one of his sharpest 100 m runs of the season, clocking 11.72 s (+6.8 m/s) to finish first in his section — a big step forward as he builds toward the summer season. His explosive drive phase and relaxed top-end speed showed the product of months of technical refinement.
Brooklyn Montana – Power and Precision
Continuing his excellent winter form, Brooklyn ran 11.77 s (+6.8 m/s) in the 100 m and dominated the Triple Jump with 12.50 m (+1.2 m/s) — his second-best effort of the year. Already one of the ACT’s leading jumpers, Brooklyn’s confidence and execution continue to improve with every meet.
Oliver Cooper – Versatile and Composed
Oliver balanced a busy day across three events, running 15.39 s for the 100 m, 31.88 s in the 200 m, and 1:19.80 for the 400 m. He also backed up with a strong Long Jump (3.85 m) the previous week — an outstanding all-round preparation block heading into Nationals.
Freya Marshall – Sprint Speed and Jump Rhythm
Freya impressed again with 29.85 s (+2.6 m/s) for the 200 m and an excellent 8.99 m (+2.7 m/s) in the Triple Jump, continuing to develop her technique and flight control. Freya’s consistency across multiple meets this winter has made her one of FAST’s most reliable young performers.
Tindra and Estrid Helgstedt – Sisters of Strength
It was another productive weekend for the Helgstedt sisters from Tuggeranong:
- Tindra won the Shot Put with a throw of 6.59 m and added 8.77 m (+0.3 m/s) in the Triple Jump, confirming her exceptional versatility.
- Estrid threw 4.75 m for 2nd in the Shot Put and recorded 7.30 m (+2.5 m/s) in the Triple Jump, gaining valuable competition rhythm ahead of Nationals.
Both sisters continue to show the benefits of FAST’s balanced approach — technical detail with fun, supportive learning.
Lewin Ainsworth and Aman Nhial – Hammer Time
In the throws circle, FAST’s hammer specialists continued to impress:
- Lewin Ainsworth threw a season-best 36.98 m to win his event — a big improvement from earlier in the winter and evidence that his timing and rhythm are clicking at the perfect time.
- Aman Nhial, also competing in the 3 kg hammer, recorded 19.26 m to place 2nd, an encouraging step in her first season with FAST and a strong sign of what’s to come.
Teaiwa Mortimer – Confidence Over the Barriers
FAST’s multi-talented hurdler Teaiwa Mortimer clocked 16.59 s (+2.6 m/s) in the 100 m hurdles — her second-fastest of the season. Her consistency through the rounds this winter continues to build toward her best form heading into the summer season.

“This group represents what FAST is all about,” said Head Coach Steve Dodt.
“They’ve trained through the cold months with focus and positivity, learning to race smart and enjoy the challenge.
To see so many of them heading into Nationals next month with confidence — that’s the reward for consistency.”
Next Stop – Nationals in Canberra
As the Winter Series closes, attention now turns to the School Sport Australia Primary Nationals — right here in the ACT.
With a blend of sprinters, jumpers, and throwers representing FAST and Team ACT, the stage is set for another chapter in the squad’s growing story of Running Excellence.
