Ellie B Opens Her Season in Cairns

FAST Running - Ellie B

The Coral Coast Carnival in Cairns has become one of North Queensland’s premier athletics meets, attracting competitors from across Australia, from young athletes taking their first steps in the sport through to Masters athletes. Held over two days at Barlow Park (25-26 July 2026), the carnival provides a valuable opportunity to compete against athletes from a wide range of clubs and experience levels.

Representing FAST Running, Ellie Barnett made the most of the opportunity with two encouraging performances in the Open Women’s sprints.

Ellie claimed victory in the Open Women’s 400 metres, stopping the clock in 1:02.99, before backing up in the Open Women’s 200 metres to run 28.73 seconds into a -1.8 m/s headwind.

While the times themselves were pleasing, the weekend was about much more than results.

Travelling interstate to compete exposes athletes to different competition environments, officials, schedules and opponents—valuable experiences that contribute to long-term development. Every race provides another opportunity to refine race execution, build confidence and identify the next areas for improvement.

Ellie continues to embrace that process.

Congratulations, Ellie, on a successful weekend in Cairns. We look forward to seeing where the remainder of the season takes you.
