Few athletes have left as lasting an impression in their teenage years as River Pentecost. A natural talent with a string of outstanding performances, River’s name is etched across state and national all-time lists, club records, and championship podiums. Yet, it’s not medals or times that have brought him back to the track—it’s the simple joy of running, connecting, and sharing his journey.
Under the guidance of FAST High Performance Coach Steve Dodt, River has quietly made his return to hurdling—years after claiming multiple national medals in sprints, hurdles, and relays, and setting club records that still stand today. His versatility was evident early on, with career-best marks like 11.21s in the 100m at 15 years of age, and national gold in the 100m and 200m hurdles in 2016.
River’s return isn’t about chasing former glories—though his ability is undeniable. Instead, it’s about rediscovering the rhythm of training, contributing to a supportive squad culture, and being part of a team that values every athlete’s personal journey. His presence offers quiet leadership, rich experience, and a reminder that performance and personal growth can go hand in hand.
“River is back,” says Coach Dodt. “He brings something special to the group—not just talent, but depth, humility, and perspective. He has so much to offer, and the entire squad benefits from having him around.”
Now training with FAST’s senior sprints and hurdles crew, River is an example of how an athlete can evolve, return on their own terms, and still have an enormous impact—both on and off the track.
