Why FAST Running Trains in the Rain

FAST Running - Training Sessions

At FAST Running, training does not stop because of rain.

Lightning? Yes.
Unsafe conditions? Of course.

But rain alone?

We train.

Not because we are trying to prove toughness.
And not because athletes need to “suffer” to improve.

We train because learning to adapt is part of athletic development.

Athletics Is an Outdoor Sport

Athletes compete in changing conditions all the time:

  • rain
  • wind
  • cold
  • heat
  • different tracks and environments

Avoiding every imperfect session creates athletes who are only comfortable when conditions are perfect.

That is not real preparation.

The AIS track is an all-weather facility designed for year-round training, and learning to move confidently in different conditions is part of becoming a more complete athlete.

Adaptability Builds Confidence

One of the biggest changes we see in athletes over time is confidence in unfamiliar conditions.

At first:

  • rain feels uncomfortable
  • the track feels different
  • movement feels uncertain

But after repeated exposure, athletes learn:

  • how to adjust
  • how to stay relaxed
  • how to maintain rhythm and focus

This creates calmer, more adaptable competitors.

Team Culture Matters

Some of the best FAST sessions happen in imperfect weather.

Why?

Because athletes remember shared experiences.

The laughs between reps.
The steam rising off the track.
The feeling of still showing up together.

Training in different conditions often strengthens team connection and reinforces an important lesson:

Progress does not require perfect circumstances.

Safety Still Comes First

Being Athlete First does not mean ignoring conditions.

Safety always matters.

Sessions are modified where necessary and training will not proceed outdoors during lightning or unsafe weather events.

The objective is not recklessness.

The objective is intelligent adaptation.

Consistency Beats Perfection

Athletic development is built through consistency over months and years.

Not waiting for perfect weather.
Not waiting for ideal conditions.

Just continuing to show up, adjust, and improve.

That mindset transfers well beyond athletics too:

  • school
  • work
  • leadership
  • life

Because resilience is not built through dramatic moments.

It is built quietly through repeated experiences.

At FAST Running, we do not train in all conditions to look tough.

We train because adaptable athletes become better athletes.

And sometimes, the sessions athletes remember most…

Are the wet ones.
