From strength to strength Canberra Running Coach, November 7, 2023May 4, 2024 Strength and conditioning helps sprinters build explosive power and speed, while also improving overall strength and endurance. For sprinters, this can help reduce the risk of injury by strengthening the muscles and joints involved in sprinting. FAST provides guidance on strength and conditioning training to its members. FAST’s Athletes are instructed on correct form and which activities are required to building strength for sprinting and jumps. Strength training sessions are organised at the FAST Recovery Centre. There is no additional cost for gym usage. FAST incorporates flexibility and mobility sessions as part of training. Flexibility allows a greater stride length whilst sprinting which means the athlete will have less physical work to do as they may cover more ground using fewer strides than their foes. FAST uses dynamic hip mobility exercises in order to improve the efficient movement of the hips. This in turn aides the legs to have the necessary power and speed to run well. With hips forward, the knee drive will automatically improve. Flexibility, mobility and core workouts are provided in group settings amongst members of FAST. Lack of mobility and muscle soreness is treated immediately. FAST members are encouraged to work with our Soft Tissue Therapist who has experience in elite level sport across many disciplines and strongly advocates Soft Tissue Therapy as part of a good recovery and preparation.
