Oliver building explosive power Canberra Running Coach, September 18, 2024September 19, 2024 Oliver (Oli) is an exciting Canberra gridiron (American football) player who studies at UC Lake Ginninderra Secondary College. Oli has ambitions of taking his football very seriously. Oliver recently joined the FAST for Sport program to boost his explosive power. His hulking frame at speed is a real weapon that can dramatically influence the outcome of key moments in a gridiron game. Building Oli’s explosive speed off the line of scrimmage is crucial, especially for positions like wide receivers, running backs, and defensive backs. A fast start can create separation from defenders or help defenders close in on opponents. Defensive players need speed to chase down ball carriers, while offensive players use speed to evade tackles and outrun defenders for big plays. Once a player like Oli is in open space, speed helps them turn small gains into long runs or touchdowns by outrunning all defenders. Speed isn’t just about running; it’s also about reaction time and acceleration. Players with speed can react quickly to plays as they develop, both on offense and defense. Training with Canberra Sprint Coach, Steve Dodt, Oliver will be able to cover more ground, making him valuable in multiple roles—whether it’s special teams, returning kicks, or covering passes deep downfield.
