From Chasing 11s to Smashing Them – Daniel’s 10.88s Statement

FAST Running - Daniel Nwaobi - 10.88s

The Sprint to Sub-11

“I didn’t train to cope. I trained to conquer.”

In July, Daniel Nwaobi set out to do something that most athletes spend years chasing — to break the 11-second barrier in the 100m sprint.

He gave himself 10 weeks.

Not 10 weeks to wish for it.
10 weeks to work for it.
10 weeks to earn it.

What followed was one of the most focused, demanding, and transformative training blocks we’ve seen at FAST Performance — and it wasn’t just about running fast.

It was about who Daniel became in the process.

Week 1: The Decision

Daniel already had national-level talent. He’d been building momentum, hitting consistent 11-low times. But with ACT Schools Championships approaching in September, he approached us and said:

“I want to go 10.8. Not ‘one day’ — this season.”

That mindset changed everything.

His sessions shifted from doing the work to executing with purpose. Each stride had intent. Every gym set was tracked. Load was managed precisely using a 75/100/50 wave — a strategy adapted from Coach Andrew Iselin’s model. There was no fluff, no junk volume. Only what mattered.

Backed by Science. Built with Grit.

Together we tailored a strength and power program that complemented his on-track work without creating excess fatigue. His mobility improved. His hip mechanics sharpened. Sprint drills were video-reviewed weekly. RSI scores were logged. His quarter squats climbed well into triple-bodyweight range — but what mattered most was how he moved, not how much he lifted.

“I wasn’t the strongest or the fastest every session,” Daniel said.
“But I showed up — and I listened.”

He didn’t chase hype. He chased clarity.

The Cold, the Hills, the Breakthroughs

Saturday hill sprints at Parliament House became Daniel’s proving ground.
Wind. Rain. Frosty mornings. No shortcuts.

“One session I wanted to quit halfway. Legs were gone. Chest was tight. Coach just looked at me and said: ‘This is the work that makes the moment.’ I finished the session. That changed me.”

And slowly, things started to click.

He wasn’t just running faster — he was sprinting with rhythm, confidence, and control. 120m fly runs dropped. His 30m time trials sharpened. He learned to trust his start and his finish.

Northside Regional Schools Championships – 9 September

It wasn’t a perfect day. There was a slight headwind. The pressure was there. But Daniel stayed internal — calm, grounded, ready.

From the first step, it was different.
There was no tightness. No doubt.
Just clean, powerful sprinting — the kind that comes from months of doing the hard things right.

He crossed the line.

10.88 seconds. Personal best. Sub-11.

More Than a Time

For some, it was a qualifying mark. For Daniel, it was a declaration:

“It wasn’t about the number. It was about proving I could commit, stay patient, and trust the process. This was for me.”

And that’s what we value most at FAST Running — not just performance, but purpose.

Daniel’s 10-week sprint wasn’t about medals, records, or applause.
It was about discipline.
It was about belief.
It was about becoming someone who owns the journey.

He did that.

The Story Behind the Time

“I didn’t train to cope. I trained to conquer.”
Internal cue of the cycle: I am the calm before the explosion.
Drill of choice: Weighted A-skips and bounding stride sequence
Game changer: Contrast sprint sets with dynamic RSI monitoring
Rain sessions completed: 7
Regrets: None

Final Word from Coach

“Daniel taught us that high performance isn’t about chasing external validation. It’s about showing up, being coachable, and being driven by your own standard. Sub-11 is just the beginning — the mindset he’s built will take him much further.”
