Aranda Accelerate Clinic Launches April Holidays with Energy and Speed

FAST Running - Accelerate

The Accelerate: Sprint & Agility Clinic at Aranda Playing Fields was the perfect way to kick off the April 2024 school holidays, bringing together young athletes aged 6 to 18 for a fun, fast-paced afternoon of speed development and athletic movement. Set on the open grassy fields of northside Canberra, the session combined serious skill-building with plenty of smiles.

Led by renowned Canberra sprint coach Steve Dodt and the supportive FAST Kids coaching team, the clinic focused on developing sprint mechanics, coordination, agility, and reaction speed in an inclusive and encouraging environment. Drills were tailored to meet every child at their level, ensuring a rewarding experience for everyone—from budding sprinters to first-timers just discovering the joy of moving fast.

“We’re all about helping kids understand how to run—not just making them run harder,” said Coach Steve. “The Aranda session gave us space to break down acceleration, foot placement, arm drive, and movement patterns in a way that’s fun, progressive, and really effective.”

The two-hour session included:

  • Dynamic warm-ups with sprint technique corrections
  • Acceleration drills for short bursts of speed
  • Agility ladders and cone drills for footwork and movement efficiency
  • Short sprint races and games that reinforced learning through play

Parents were thrilled with the program:

“My child had a blast—and came away saying they now know how to sprint properly!”

The Aranda clinic was the first of two run over the April break, with many families choosing to attend both because of the high energy, expert coaching, and fun squad atmosphere. The session brought the FAST Kids values to lifeactive learning, confidence building, and technical coaching delivered in a positive and team-based setting.
