FAST Running athlete Bree Madigan Wong produced another strong championship showing at the NSW Junior Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre from 12–15 March 2026, lining up across hurdles, sprints and long jump against quality opposition.
Competing in the Girls U14 age group, Bree’s weekend had both challenge and reward.
In her favourite event, the 80m Hurdles, Bree unfortunately had a stumble and finished in 19.50 into a -2.7 wind. It was not the result she was chasing, but importantly, Bree had already done the work earlier in the season by securing an automatic national qualifier, meaning her progression to Brisbane does not depend on a top-three finish from this meet.
She responded exactly how good athletes do — by getting back on the track and continuing to compete.
Bree produced a personal best of 13.06 in the heats of the 100m, qualifying through to the final where she ran 13.17. She then delivered one of the highlights of her championships in the 200m Hurdles, running 29.01 for 2nd place and a new personal best, despite effectively racing the event alone.
She also contested the Long Jump, recording 4.67m to finish 10th.
For a developing athlete, this was an important weekend — not because everything went perfectly, but because Bree showed composure, resilience and the ability to keep competing well after disappointment. With a national qualifier already secured and more progress still coming, she remains firmly on track for the Australian Championships.
