From the Soccer Field to the Sprint Track: Oliver’s Rapid Rise

FAST Running - Oliver Funtanilla - Profile

Just months ago, Oliver was making his mark on the soccer field. Now, he’s trading goals for finish lines as he prepares to compete on Australia’s biggest athletics stage—the 2025 Australian Athletics Championships in Perth this April.

Oliver’s transition from soccer to sprinting has been nothing short of remarkable. At the Capital Athletics Championships, he sealed his Nationals qualification with a 12.12s performance in the 100m, just shy of his personal best of 12.04s. It’s an incredible improvement from 12.33s at the Woden Carnival in early February, proving that his speed has gone to another level in just a matter of weeks.

Under the expert guidance of Canberra sprint coach Steve Dodt, Oliver has joined FAST Track, where he now trains alongside an elite group of National-level sprinters, including Daniel Nwaobi, Thomas Madigan, Lewin Ainsworth, Vishaal Vijayakumar, Brooklyn Montana, Nick Porter, and Simeon Omosigho. With this high-performance environment pushing him every session, Oliver is on the verge of breaking the 12-second barrier—a milestone he’s chasing for the Nationals final in April.

Oliver’s rapid rise in sprinting is a testament to his work ethic, natural talent, and dedication to running excellence. From soccer boots to sprint spikes, his journey is just beginning—and Nationals is only the first step. Keep an eye out for Oliver as he makes his mark on the Australian sprinting scene! 🚀💨 #FASTRunning #RunningExcellence #NationalsBound
