When Alex Gill joined FAST Running, he came with a clear goal in mind: to blend his passion for athletics with his career aspirations in exercise physiology and rehabilitation. What followed was a journey that not only elevated his understanding of high-performance sport, but also gave him the platform to grow as a coach, mentor, and future leader in health and fitness.
A driven and thoughtful athlete, Alex was more than just a sprinter and jumper in the squad. From the outset, he was eager to absorb the “why” behind every drill, every rep, and every program design. With a strong academic foundation from his studies at the University of Canberra, Alex wanted to apply his knowledge in real-world training environments—and FAST Running gave him the opportunity to do exactly that.
Under the guidance of High Performance Coach Steve Dodt, Alex began mentoring at FAST HQ, supporting the squad with strength and mobility training and building his practical experience alongside some of Canberra’s most promising young athletes. His knowledge of exercise science, athlete safety, and rehabilitation principles made him a valuable asset to the program.
But Alex’s journey didn’t stop there.
Through FAST’s network and commitment to supporting its athletes beyond the track, Alex took on roles in the Little Athletics in Primary Schools (LAPS) program—introducing sport to young children in a fun and engaging way. From that experience, he went on to lead the athletics program at Abilities Unlimited Australia, empowering athletes of all abilities to experience the joy and benefits of movement.
Alex’s path is a testament to what’s possible when talent meets mentorship. His story is just one of many at FAST that demonstrates how our Running Excellence model goes far beyond personal bests. It’s about fostering purpose, developing skills, and opening up new career and life opportunities for those who are willing to lean in and give their all.
“FAST gave me the real-world exposure I was looking for. It helped bridge the gap between my studies and actual coaching, and I’ve been able to apply what I’ve learned in strength and conditioning, performance design, and rehabilitation to a diverse group of athletes.”
At FAST Running, we believe in developing the whole person. Whether you’re aiming to sprint faster, coach smarter, or make an impact in the world of sport and health—there’s a place for you here.
