Vivian Williams Joins the FAST Coaching Team

FAST Running - Vivian Williams

We’re excited to officially welcome Vivian Williams to the FAST Running coaching team.

Many of you will already know Vivian — whether from watching him tear down the track in FAST colours, chatting with him after a session, or getting a quiet word of advice mid-warmup. What you might not know is the full story behind his journey — one marked by resilience, talent, and a deep passion for helping others thrive on the track.

From Sierra Leone to FAST

Vivian first came to Australia as a young sprinter competing at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, representing Sierra Leone. After seeking asylum, he joined FAST Running and quickly became one of the most electric talents in the ACT. In 2019, Vivian clocked a blistering 10.58s for the 100m and equalled his personal best in the 200m with a time of 21.89s — both achieved while training under the FAST banner.

To this day, Vivian’s 100m and 200m marks remain the fastest times recorded by a FAST male athlete.

Becoming a Mentor and Coach

But Vivian’s contribution to FAST has never been just about his speed. During his time with the squad, he completed his Australian Athletics Level 1 Coaching Course and began mentoring junior athletes — quietly supporting them with technique tips, mindset strategies, and the kind of calm confidence that only someone who’s been there can offer.

Over the past two seasons, Vivian has been behind the scenes, learning and growing as part of our coaching pathway. Now, as an Australian citizen, we’re proud to see him step into an official coaching role with FAST.

What Vivian Brings to FAST

Vivian brings something unique — not just fast times, but experience earned through challenge, persistence, and passion. He understands what it takes to perform at a high level, to push through setbacks, and to build strength not only in your body, but in your mindset.

For our current and future sprinters — especially those in their teens and early twenties — Vivian is more than just a coach. He’s walked the path you’re on. He knows the pressure of the start line, the thrill of a PB, and the importance of having a team that believes in you.

Looking Ahead

Vivian will be working closely with our senior athletes and mentoring younger sprinters who are chasing personal bests, state medals, and national standards. His presence strengthens our mission of Running Excellence — combining high-level performance knowledge with a genuine care for each athlete’s journey.

Welcome to the team officially, Coach Vivian. We’re lucky to have you on board — and we’re only just getting started.
