On a crisp Canberra morning, athletes from across FAST Running gathered at the hills of Yarralumla — from our youngest FAST Kids to senior FAST Performance sprinters. No lanes, no starting blocks. Just the hill, the group, and the shared goal of getting better, together.
These sessions are more than just training — they reflect our coaching philosophy in motion.
At FAST, we believe in long-term athlete development. That means age-appropriate challenges, steady progress, and a focus on growing the athlete and the person. You’ll see that whether it’s a 9-year-old learning how to run tall uphill or a national finalist pushing through their third rep at the top.
Hills demand technique, power, and resilience — and they reveal character too. There’s no hiding poor form, no shortcut to the top. And when younger athletes watch older ones lead by example, the pathway becomes real.
We blend sports science with lived experience. Drills that refine mechanics, feedback that shapes mindset, and loads backed by research. But just as importantly, there’s encouragement, laughter, and support — the kind of environment that builds confidence as much as capacity.
Training like this isn’t just about chasing medals — it’s about creating athletes who are strong, adaptable, and grounded. Athletes who support each other. Athletes who show up — rain, shine, or incline.
The Yarralumla hills challenge every athlete in their own way, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
