A big afternoon for FAST at 9 August High Noon

FAST Running - High Noon

Today was another opportunity for our athletes to take the work from training and put it into competition — and there was plenty to like across the track and field at 9 August High Noon Meet at Woden.

Our sprinters were busy, with Bree Madigan Wong running 13.63 for 100m, closely followed by Annabelle Renda (13.70) and Isabelle Jeffs (13.72). Afsa Fatima Chowdhury ran 13.90, while Mikeire Hei Hei recorded 12.28 and Thivain Ariyadasa 15.23.

Over 200m, Isabelle backed up with 28.34, Afsa ran 29.11 and Thivain 32.37.

Chris Valzano stepped up to the 400m and produced 56.06, while Leo McKinley ran 1:11.87 before also taking on the 1500m, recording 5:48.15. Scarlett Taylor completed the 1500m in 6:24.54.

There was plenty happening away from the flat sprints too.

Bree recorded 13.94 (-0.2) in the 80m hurdles, while Mikeire led our long jump performances with 5.13m, followed by Afsa at 4.98m, Annabelle at 4.46m, Thivain at 3.86m and Scarlett at 3.24m.

Afsa then added another event to an already substantial afternoon, throwing 15.41m in the discus.

What we like most isn’t simply the numbers.

It’s seeing athletes prepared to compete, experiment, learn and put themselves out there. Some raced their primary events. Others took on multiple events and different challenges. Every competition gives us another piece of information about where each athlete is now and what we can build next.

High Noon gave us plenty of those pieces today.

Well done to everyone who competed — and thank you to the officials, volunteers, families and supporters who make these opportunities possible.

Running Excellence grows. 🖤❤️
