Core sessions building explosive speed Canberra Sprint Coach, February 4, 2024May 7, 2024 The Athletes of FAST Running do a squad core workout together twice a week at FAST Recovery Centre. The focus for the group is on developing explosive power and speed in the lower body while also engaging the core and upper body. These group strength training sessions for sprinting involve Front Plank, Side Plank, Russian Twists, Leg Raises, Medicine Ball Slam, Hollow Body Hold, Bird Dog, Woodchoppers, Cycling Crunches, Bridges, and Pallof Press to name a few favourites . The group has certainly bonded greatly from the difficulty of the core training and sessions are often a lot of fun. For some in the group, a recovery session in the pool after training is always on the cards. Those in the squad who have regularly been doing these sessions have shown that they can react quicker, have more control over their centre of gravity, and generate more power out of the blocks For more information on the importance of core training, speak with Canberra Sprint Coach, Steve Dodt.
