The wind may have been swirling, but that didn’t stop FAST Running athletes from delivering outstanding performances at Saturday’s Summer Series meet on Australia’s fastest track. Despite the challenging conditions, the squad put on an impressive display across multiple events, reinforcing that regardless of age or background, there’s a pathway to running excellence with FAST Running.
Sprinting Success Across the Board
In the 60m events, Mathias Lill stormed to victory in the Men’s 16-17 category with a strong 7.56s run. Rose Cajetan was thrilled to line up against elite sprinter Ella Connolly in the Women’s 60m, finishing with a solid 8.30s. Young guns Sam Ainsworth and Thivain Hasvi Ariyadasa also put in determined efforts in the Boys’ 10-13 division, with Sam finishing second in 9.22s.
Over 100m, the FAST Running squad continued to shine. Seth Samarakoon clocked an impressive 13.97s in the Boys’ 10-13 race, closely followed by Sam Ainsworth (14.49s) and Thivain Ariyadasa (15.37s). Lewin Ainsworth showed his versatility, clocking 12.63s in the Men’s 14-15 100m before returning later in the day to dominate the 400m in 1:00.01. Tearia Teaiwa Mortimer also impressed, running 13.39s in the Women’s 16-17 100m, while Rose Cajetan crossed the line in 13.14s in the Open Women’s race.
Pushing Limits in the 200m and 400m
In the 200m, Rose Cajetan continued her strong meet, finishing in 28.30s, while Sam Ainsworth (30.62s) and Thivain Ariyadasa (34.73s) showed promising form in the Boys’ 10-13 category. Thivain then went on to complete the endurance challenge with a gutsy 1:25.20 in the 400m.
Hurdles and Field Events Showcase Squad’s Depth
The FAST Running squad proved their strength in technical events as well. Tearia Teaiwa Mortimer battled the headwinds to clock 16.92s in the 100m Hurdles, while Thivain Ariyadasa took top honours in the Boys’ 10-13 90m Hurdles with a 20.81s effort. In the field, Seth Samarakoon leapt to 4.29m in the Long Jump, taking first place, while Thivain followed up his sprinting efforts with a best of 3.21m. Mathias Lill also delivered in the Men’s 16-17 Long Jump, recording a best jump of 5.24m. Meanwhile, Lewin Ainsworth showcased his all-around ability with a 26.88m throw in the Hammer.
