FAST50: Taking the small wins Canberra Sprint Coach, May 3, 2024August 29, 2024 The journey to a return to FAST Running has continued over the past 6 weeks for FAST & Active member Steve. Having received the much anticipated carbon plated orthotics from the Walking Clinic at Lyneham, the time had come to try running with them. Training at Canberra’s hardest hill session was a huge relief for Steve to have completed it in one piece. Consecutive running sessions in a row and the knees complained loudly. This restricted movement in all other areas of training and exercise was impacted as a result. Add in a new job and a return to the office, and the program was now interrupted. Steve’s approach is now to focus on strength and mobility in his return to running. Training at the FAST Recovery Centre in Belconnen, Steve has been in the ice bath (the open air pool), the gym, enjoying recovery boots, and plyometrics. The body is tolerating the load and its a small win. Though things continue to be a slow process, the signs are good for running with successes coming in waves. The next steps are to find routine and increase variability in Steve’s training, including mobility sessions at work over lunch, and foam rolling as part of recovery. Speak with FAST Running about your own journey and how a tailored solution can be found to improve your speed and return from injury.
