Stretching for sprinters Canberra Sprint Coach, May 9, 2024August 29, 2024 Stretching is a regular part of FAST Running’s training regimen to optimize performance and minimize the risk of injury. Under the guidance of Canberra Sprint Coach, Steve Dodt, stretching is conducted as a group activity in-person after training and at the FAST Recovery Centre, as stretching helps to reduce muscle soreness and stiffness by promoting blood flow and aiding in the removal of lactic acid and other metabolic waste products from the muscles. Flexibility is directly linked to performance in sprinting. A greater range of motion allows sprinters to achieve longer strides and better technique, leading to improved speed and efficiency. Members of FAST Running enjoy stretching as it increases flexibility and range of motion, reducing the risk of injuries such as strains and pulls. Stretching also helps correct muscle imbalances and improve overall posture, which is essential for sprinters to maintain proper form and maximize their speed.
