There’s something special about watching young athletes break through their own barriers—and this weekend, Matilda, one of our standout 11-year-old middle distance runners, did just that.
At The Canberra Times Marathon Festival, Matilda lined up for the 5km event and delivered an absolute breakthrough. Not only did she slash two minutes off her previous personal best, bringing it down to a brilliant 26:10, she also crossed the line 5th in her age group and 25th female overall—an incredible achievement in a field filled with seasoned runners of all ages.
What makes this moment even more exciting is how quickly Matilda has progressed. Over the past six weeks, she’s committed to structured training, and this was her first solo race experience—without her mum pacing alongside her. It was a big step, and she took it with maturity, grit, and that signature FAST determination.
Her mum summed it up perfectly:
“Yeah, I’m excited to see what she can do—this was her first race like that where I wasn’t with her, and she’s only been training for six weeks.”
With Cross Country Championships on the horizon this winter, Matilda’s performance sets the stage for an exciting season ahead. Her passion, work ethic, and fearless racing spirit are already turning heads—and we can’t wait to see where her journey leads next.
Congratulations, Matilda! 🖤❤️🏃♀️
Your FAST family is incredibly proud.
