River’s story is one of those victories.
Over the past season, River’s sprinting journey has been complicated by a stubborn, old hamstring injury, one that doesn’t always show up in tests but shows up clearly in the way it feels — tight, sore, and unpredictable.
The issue? An unusual tear to the semimembranosus muscle, leaving behind scar tissue that still flares up from time to time. While it hasn’t completely stopped him from training, it’s made things uncomfortable, uncertain, and emotionally draining. Even when clinical assessments suggested it wasn’t serious, the pain for River felt real — enough to rattle his confidence and raise tough questions.
But here’s the part we’re proud of: River never gave up.
He stayed engaged. He kept running. He adjusted when he needed to. When finances made professional treatment difficult, he self-managed. He showed up to FAST sessions ready to work, even if that meant holding back or modifying what he did. And most importantly, he kept the dream alive — not just of sprinting well, but of feeling strong again in his own body.
