Summer series: 28 February 2026

FAST Running - Bruce Ridge

FAST Running athletes returned to the AIS Athletics Track on 28 February for another round of the ACT Summer Series, facing strong headwinds across the sprint events and a busy competition schedule across sprints, hurdles, middle distance, and jumps.

Despite the difficult conditions, the squad delivered a number of strong performances, demonstrating the depth and versatility that continues to define the FAST Running community.

Sprint Events

In the 100 metres, FAST Performance athlete Daniel Nwaobi recorded 11.35 (-1.4) into a significant headwind. The run confirmed Daniel’s continued ability to compete strongly at the front of the field despite challenging wind conditions.

Sam Blood followed with 11.50, another composed performance before returning later in the evening for an outstanding 200 metres victory in 23.09 (-1.9). Executed with patience through the bend and a powerful finish, Sam’s race was one of the standout sprint performances of the night given the severe headwind.

Justin Akachili continued his consistent development with 12.03 in the 100m and 24.91 in the 200m, while Julien Johnson stepped up across two events, running 12.98 for 100m before delivering a strong 58.15 in the 400m.

Lewin Ainsworth, competing under an injury cloud, showed admirable resilience. He ran 24.58 in the 200m before backing up with 59.13 in the 400m, demonstrating determination and commitment to the team despite not being at full fitness.

Women’s Sprint and Hurdles

Bree Madigan Wong delivered another excellent technical performance in the 80m hurdles, taking first place in 13.06 (-0.7) and an Australian Athletics Auto Qualification performance. Bree later returned to the track to run 13.28 in the 100m, highlighting her versatility across sprint and hurdle disciplines.

Lauren Fiddy competed strongly across two sprint events, running 14.01 for 100m and 29.35 for 200m, continuing to build experience and race rhythm.

Jasmine Smyth opened her evening with 9.08 in the 60m, then doubled back with 14.92 in the 100m and 31.04 in the 200m, gaining valuable competition exposure across multiple sprint distances.

Hurdles and Field Events

In the 90m hurdlesSam Ainsworth ran 17.65 into a fierce -3.0 headwind, an effort that demonstrated both courage and technical improvement in very challenging conditions.

In the field events, Blake Murray Smith cleared 1.15m in the High Jump, adding another event to a busy evening that also included the 200m and 400m.

Middle Distance

FAST Running athletes also featured in the mile races.
Chloe Prstec produced a strong run to place second in the Women’s Mile in 5:17.63, while Chris Valzano recorded 4:57.30 in the Men’s Mile, continuing his steady progress in middle-distance competition.

Masters Representation

Adding to the breadth of the FAST Running community, Ellie Barrett competed strongly in the 400m, recording 1:03.22.

Across all events, the evening once again highlighted the breadth of the FAST Running squad, with athletes competing from junior through to masters categories and across multiple disciplines.

While the headwinds made fast times difficult, the competition provided valuable race opportunities as athletes continue their preparation for upcoming championships.

At FAST Running, Running Excellence is built through consistency, resilience, and competition experience—and the Summer Series continues to provide the perfect platform for athletes to test themselves against strong fields in the nation’s capital.
