FAST Running’s Cotter River Camp

At FAST Running, we know that success isn’t just about what happens on the track—it’s about the team, the mindset, and the moments that bring us together. This past weekend, our squad took a break from the intensity of competition prep and headed into the great outdoors for a two-day camping adventure at Cotter River Campground.

Nature, Teamwork, and Unforgettable Moments

Under a sky full of stars, we embraced the elements, swapping racing spikes for hiking boots and training blocks for river rocks. Our athletes swam in the cool waters of the Cotter River, built stone dams, skipped rocks, and climbed to the top of the Cotter Dam—a challenge that took both strength and teamwork. These moments reminded us that resilience and camaraderie aren’t just built in training sessions but also in the shared experiences that connect us as a squad.

Training with a View

Of course, no FAST Running trip would be complete without some high-performance training! We made the most of the breathtaking Stromlo Forest Park, using the hills and trails for some solid conditioning work. The setting provided a refreshing change from the track, giving our athletes a new environment to push themselves while still keeping things light and enjoyable.

Refreshed and Ready for Competition

This weekend wasn’t just about adventure—it was about resetting before the competition season heats up. With the Capital Athletics Championships (21 February 2025) fast approaching, followed by the Australian Athletics Championships in April, our squad is entering a critical phase of preparation. The time away allowed everyone to reset mentally and physically, ensuring we return to training with renewed energy and focus.

Looking Ahead

As we move into the summer season, the bonds formed on this trip will carry through to our training sessions and race-day performances. FAST Running is more than a squad—it’s a family, and this trip reinforced that in the best way possible.
