Athletes Battle Brutal Headwinds at Australia’s Fastest Track

FAST Running - Brooklyn Montana

The FAST Running squad braved extreme conditions at the Summer Series Meet on March 7, facing punishing headwinds up to -4.0m/s at Australia’s fastest track. Despite the tough conditions, our athletes showed grit, determination, and elite-level resilience, putting together some impressive performances as they continue fine-tuning their form ahead of Nationals.

Fighting the Wind in the Sprints

With headwinds strong enough to slow even the fastest sprinters, our athletes pushed through in the 100m:

  • Daniel Nwaobi clocked 12.23s, an impressive run given the conditions.
  • Brooklyn Montana fought hard to finish in 13.19s, showing strong acceleration out of the blocks.
  • Rose Zillar Cajetan powered to a second-place finish in 13.65s, battling the elements to stay competitive.
  • Teaiwa Mortimer dug deep to record 14.10s, proving her strength under pressure.

The 200m saw Thomas Madigan rise to the challenge, storming to victory in 24.98s—a remarkable result given the brutal headwind.

Prstec’s Grit in the 1000m

In a display of endurance and tactical awareness, Chloe Prstec dominated the 1000m, crossing the line in 3:01.81. This race tested both strength and pacing, and Chloe proved she is in top shape heading into Nationals.

Brooklyn Montana Dominates Triple Jump

Despite challenging conditions, Brooklyn Montana delivered a huge leap of 11.83m to win the Triple Jump. His ability to maintain speed and technique despite the winds is a testament to his explosive power and training discipline. Brooklyn’s performance propelled him into the top 10% triple jumpers in his age in Australia this season.

Mortimer’s Strength in the Throws

Teaiwa Mortimer rounded out a strong meet with a 9.29m effort in the Shot Put, securing another first-place finish for the squad. Her versatility across events makes her a true all-around athlete to watch.

Resilience and Championship Mindset

Racing in extreme headwinds is never easy, but FAST Running athletes never back down from a challenge. The ability to compete through adversity will only make them stronger as they head towards the Australian University Games and Junior Championships in April.

With Nationals just around the corner, expect big performances from this squad when the conditions are right. The best is yet to come! 🚀🔥 #FASTRunning #RunningExcellence #AgainstTheWind
