Hugo Peat: Speed That Travels – From FAST for Sport to the Australian Raptors

FAST Running - Hugo Peat - Profile

For FAST for Sport member Hugo Peat, speed has always been more than a number on a stopwatch — it’s a competitive edge.

A talented rugby back, Hugo has been training with FAST for Sport with one clear objective: to get faster, move better, and become more effective on the field. That commitment has now translated into national recognition, with Hugo recently selected for the Australian Raptors Rugby Academy — one of just three players from the ACT to earn selection.

It’s a significant milestone in his rugby journey.

National Selection, International Stage

Hugo has just returned from an Australian Raptors Rugby Academy tour of the UK and Ireland, travelling through Ireland, England, and Scotland, arriving in Dublin and departing from Edinburgh.

The tour brought together a squad of up to 38 players, selected from across the country, following a compulsory high-performance training camp in Kangaroo Valley in November.

Selection into the Raptors program places Hugo within a pathway that runs parallel to, and in collaboration with, the NSW Waratahs program and state rugby unions, recognising athletes with the potential to progress within the 15-a-side game.

Being chosen from such a competitive field is a clear endorsement of Hugo’s ability — and his upward trajectory.

The FAST for Sport Connection

While Hugo’s rugby skillset is central to his success, his time within FAST for Sport has played a key role in sharpening the physical qualities that matter most for modern rugby backs.

FAST for Sport focuses on:

  • Acceleration and max-velocity mechanics
  • Efficient running posture and projection
  • Movement quality under fatigue
  • Transferable speed for field and court sports

For Hugo, these elements have helped translate raw athleticism into repeatable, game-ready speed — the kind that shows up in broken-field play, defensive recovery, and attacking intent.

His training hasn’t been about becoming a sprinter.
It’s been about becoming a better rugby player.

A Program Built for Holistic Development

The Australian Raptors Rugby Academy mirrors many of the principles FAST for Sport values — a holistic approach to athlete development.

The Raptors program emphasises:

  • Overseas touring and exposure to international rugby environments
  • Cultural immersion and personal growth
  • Advanced rugby skill development
  • Resilience and adaptability
  • Physical and mental well-being

These experiences align closely with FAST’s belief that performance is shaped not just by training, but by environment, mindset, and opportunity.

Running Excellence Beyond the Track

Hugo Peat’s journey is a strong example of how running excellence transfers beyond athletics.

By investing in his speed, mechanics, and movement efficiency through FAST for Sport, Hugo has added a critical layer to his rugby performance — one that has helped him stand out at a national level and earn the chance to test himself internationally.

As he continues to balance rugby commitments with performance development, Hugo’s pathway reinforces a simple truth:

Speed matters.
How you build it matters even more.

FAST Running is proud to support athletes like Hugo — wherever their sport takes them.
