FAST Running | Hill Session Insight
Saturday on the hill wasn’t just about effort.
It was about who you run with — and what that brings out in you.
Changing the Match-Up
Instead of staying in familiar groups, athletes were paired with people they wouldn’t normally train or race against.
- 100–200m sprinters
- 200–400m athletes
- Different strengths, different styles
Not random.
Deliberate.
Because comfort doesn’t prepare you for competition.
Why Pairing Matters
In training, it’s easy to settle into rhythm with the same athletes.
You know their pace.
You know how it feels.
You know what to expect.
But competition doesn’t work like that.
So we shift it.
Pairings create:
- unpredictability — you can’t rely on habit
- adaptation — you adjust in real time
- pressure — someone different brings a different challenge
That’s where growth happens.
Sprinters vs Strength
On the hill, the contrast became clear.
Our 100–200m athletes brought:
- sharp acceleration
- early intent
- aggressive first steps
Our 200–400m athletes responded with:
- strength through the middle
- composure under load
- the ability to hold effort longer
Different qualities.
Same standard.
And in each pairing, something shifted.
Athletes had to:
- find another gear
- stay composed under pressure
- compete in a way that wasn’t familiar
Why the Hill Changes Everything
The hill removes shortcuts.
You can’t rely on pure speed alone.
You can’t hide in rhythm.
It demands:
- projection
- force
- intent
And when you combine that with new pairings, the session becomes something more than just reps.
It becomes competition, without the start gun.
Building Better Competitors
At FAST, sessions are designed to do more than tick boxes.
They prepare athletes for what actually happens when it counts:
- unfamiliar competitors
- unexpected pressure
- the need to adapt instantly
Because Running Excellence isn’t just about executing when things feel right.
It’s about responding when they don’t.
Running Excellence — Together
Different athletes.
Different strengths.
Shared standard.
On the hill, that showed clearly.
And as the season builds, so does the ability to compete —
not just against the clock,
but against whatever is put in front of you.
