FAST athletes deliver in the cold at final Summer Series
The final Capital Athletics Summer Series meet of the season brought some of the toughest conditions our athletes have faced all summer — cold, wet, and far from ideal for sprinting.
In the lead-in to Nationals, we made a deliberate late call not to encourage participation, prioritising athlete health, mechanics and readiness over chasing times in conditions that don’t support quality sprinting.
That matters.
Speed is precise. Mechanics matter. And at this stage of the season, protecting what we’ve built is just as important as expressing it.
Despite that, a number of FAST athletes stepped up — and delivered.
Lewin leads the way
Lewin Ainsworth continues to build a standout season.
He ran a new 100m personal best of 11.82, the fastest time by a 14-year-old this season, adding to what has already been a breakthrough period that includes a 400m PB and a new Gungahlin club record, surpassing the previous mark held by Aydin Ayan.
Lewin also backed up with a 58.21 in the 400m, showing his growing range and consistency.
PBs across the squad
There was a strong theme across the night — progress, even in poor conditions.
- Mikeire Hei Hei ran a 100m PB (12.31) and produced an outstanding 11.21m Triple Jump, a performance that would have won ACT Championship gold earlier this season.
- Manuel Navarro-Gonzalez recorded personal bests in both the 100m and 200m, continuing his consistent progression.
- Annabelle Renda ran a 100m PB of 13.10, knocking on the door of that first sub-13 performance.
- Isabelle (Izzy) Jeffs had one of the performances of the night, breaking 14 seconds for the first time with 13.65, a significant milestone and a big step forward.
Strength across events
Earlier in the evening, Sam Ainsworth opened competition strongly with a personal best in the 90m Hurdles (17.65), continuing his development across both sprint and hurdle events.
In the longer sprint, the 400m group showed consistency and resilience, with Chris Valzano (55.77) and Ellie B (1:03.04) both performing well at the back end of a long competitive season — a strong sign heading into the final phase.
Built for what’s next
This meet wasn’t about perfect conditions or chasing peak performance.
It was about making smart decisions, staying healthy, and continuing to build momentum into Nationals.
Some chose not to compete.
Some stepped up anyway.
Both are part of high performance.
With Nationals now approaching, the focus is clear — fresh, sharp, and ready to perform when it counts.
Running Excellence.
