Walk onto a FAST for Sport session and you will notice something unusual.
There isn’t a typical athlete.
Standing on the start line might be a junior footballer preparing for finals, a basketball player returning from injury, a rugby player wanting a quicker first five metres, a cricketer looking to improve running between the wickets, or a hockey player trying to become more explosive over short distances.
Next to them could be a national-level athlete in their off-season or a teenager preparing for their first representative team trials.
Different sports.
Different ages.
Different experiences.
Different reasons for being there.
That diversity is exactly what makes FAST for Sport such an interesting environment.
Every Athlete Arrives With a Different Story
Some athletes come to us in the middle of their competitive season, looking for an edge without compromising their game-day performance.
Others arrive during the off-season, when they have time to rebuild movement patterns, improve acceleration and develop the physical qualities that are difficult to prioritise once competition begins.
Some are eleven years old and discovering structured speed training for the first time.
Others are experienced senior athletes who have played their sport for more than a decade and are searching for marginal gains that could extend their careers.
There is no perfect time to begin.
There is only the right program for where the athlete is today.
That philosophy sits at the heart of FAST for Sport.
Speed Is Never One-Size-Fits-All
One of the biggest misconceptions in team sport is that speed training looks the same for everyone.
It doesn’t.
A soccer player may spend most of a match accelerating repeatedly over 10 to 20 metres.
A rugby player may need to produce force through contact before accelerating into space.
A netball player relies on sharp changes of direction and repeated explosive movements.
A cricketer requires efficient acceleration and deceleration, while a basketball player constantly transitions between sprinting, jumping and reacting.
Even athletes playing the same sport often require different solutions.
The role of the coach is not simply to deliver a session.
It is to understand the athlete standing in front of them.
The Principles Never Change
While every athlete’s journey is different, the coaching principles remain remarkably consistent.
At FAST Running we focus on movement quality before intensity.
We teach athletes how to project effectively, accelerate efficiently and organise their bodies to produce force into the ground.
We build posture before power.
Rhythm before rushing.
Quality before quantity.
Those principles apply whether an athlete plays AFL, rugby league, rugby union, soccer, hockey, basketball, cricket, netball, touch football or any other field or court sport.
The sport may change.
Good sprint mechanics do not.
More Than Speed
Many athletes join FAST for Sport because they want to become faster.
They often leave with much more.
They develop a better understanding of movement.
They become more aware of how their body produces force.
They learn how preparation influences performance and why recovery matters just as much as hard training.
Perhaps most importantly, they begin to understand that speed is a skill.
Like any skill, it can be coached, refined and improved.
A Place for Everyone
One of the strengths of FAST for Sport is that it brings together athletes who might never otherwise train alongside one another.
Boys and girls.
Men and women.
Beginners and experienced athletes.
School sport participants and representative players.
Across recent seasons we have welcomed athletes from AFL, rugby league, rugby union, soccer, hockey, basketball, cricket, netball, touch football and even sports where speed is less obvious but no less important, such as croquet.
Despite their different sporting backgrounds, they all share something in common.
A desire to move better.
To become faster.
To continue improving.
Running Excellence
Running Excellence is not reserved for sprinters.
It belongs to anyone who wants to move more efficiently, accelerate more effectively and reach their athletic potential.
That is why FAST for Sport exists.
Not because every athlete plays the same game.
But because every athlete deserves coaching that recognises where they are in their own journey.
Different sports.
Different seasons.
Different goals.
One commitment to helping every athlete become the best mover they can be.
That is Running Excellence.
