When Joanne first joined FAST & Active, it was meant to be a way to stay fit and pass the time while her sons trained with the FAST Track squad. Quietly spoken and humble in nature, she never imagined she’d become one of the top-ranked 800m runners in the country for her age group. But that’s exactly what’s happened.
Joanne’s journey hasn’t been without its hurdles. Past injuries meant her training needed to be approached with care. She eased into the process with 2–3 running sessions a week, complemented by regular gym-based strength work. Her persistence, patience, and positivity have been key—and the results speak for themselves.
Since joining FAST in June 2023, Joanne has:
- Smashed her 5km personal best, showing just how much her endurance has developed.
- Dropped her 800m time to an impressive 2:54, making her the fastest in her age group in Canberra.
- Climbed to 3rd nationally in her age category, according to the 2024 Australian Masters Athletics results.
It’s an extraordinary achievement for someone who started simply wanting to stay active. But Joanne has stayed grounded, staying true to her original goals—training for enjoyment, wellness, and balance in life. She brings the same quiet determination to every session, inspiring others in FAST & Active and FAST Running with her consistency and calm, focused energy.
As her journey continues, FAST is proud to support Joanne not only as an athlete but as a reminder that it’s never too late to find your stride, chase new goals, and surprise yourself.
👏 Well done, Joanne—your story is only just beginning.
