Perth 2023 final just the beginning Canberra Running Coach, December 10, 2023October 15, 2024 FAST Running’s Canberra sprint duo Joshua Smith and Daniel Nwaboi competed in the U15 Men’s 100m and 200m at the All Schools Competition in Perth. Joshua who’s been nursing a bruised patella since the beginning of November, didn’t have the competition he had hoped for. His 200m Heat time was his 3rd fastest time ever, showing he didn’t loose much in strength and conditioning whilst he was managing his training load whilst receiving daily treatment. Joshua’s 100m however was quite below expectations and he’s eager to get back into training when he returns home. Daniel has again demonstrated a liking for making National Finals, with his 200m time in the final a huge 0.5s faster than his previous best set only in September. Qualifying in 9th place, Daniel stormed home and finished 6th overall in the 200m. Daniel’s 100m Heat was unfortunately a little too hot and he missed qualifying for the final by the smallest of margins at 0.01s (again 9th fastest overall, another top ten finish). Daniel’s 100m time was his second fastest time ever and only 0.13s off his personal best. Both Joshua and Daniel’s efforts this weekend are an improvement on their performances from the April 2023 Australian Junior Athletics Championships where they faced the same opposition.
